Damage to the LOOP Doug 09-01-2008

Supposedly, the Louisiana Offshore Oil Platform (LOOP) took a direct hit
from Gustav. The extent of the damage won't be known for a couple of
days. If damage is extensive, expect a run on gasoline and possible
supply shortages and of course....higher prices at the pump.

More important is how much refinery damage there might be as they will
open the SPR if crude oil supply is disrupted for a lengthy time. But
LA and TX have EPA ok to use non-oxygenated gasoline which they say is
in plentiful supply. So I doubt there will be much shortages. Oil
prices way down today on electronic trading so somebody must know
something.

Look for announcements on the corporate websites as to when the closed
refineries will light their stacks. That's that moment that production
begins.

I expect all of them to light their stacks by COB Tuesday.
