Clock is Ticking as McCain Campaign Hides Palin from the Press Doobie Keebler 09-05-2008

In a jaw-dropping appearance on MSNBC Thursday, McCain aide Nicole
Wallace told Time=92s Jay Carney that the press wouldn=92t get a chance to
take shots at the hockey mom turned McCain running mate.

"According to Nicole Wallace of the McCain campaign, the American
people don=92t care whether Sarah Palin can answer specific questions
about foreign and domestic policy. According to Wallace =97 in an
appearance I did with her this morning on Joe Scarborough=92s show =97 the
American people will learn all they need to know (and all they deserve
to know) from Palin=92s scripted speeches and choreographed appearances
on the campaign trail and in campaign ads."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DLhgUvX_8Joo

Given the highly combustible mixture that is Palin=92s reed-thin resume,
radical right-wing agenda and mushrooming portfolio of scandals, Team
McCain=92s effort to field the first stealth vice presidential candidate
in history comes as no surprise.

But for conservatives so found of countdowns and ticking clocks, the
question now is: when will =93Disappearing Palin=94 meet the press?
Apparently, =93Sarahcoulda,=94 but won=92t talk to the media.

The clock is ticking.

If you prefer having inexperience at the top of the ticket rather than
the bottom, that is entirely your affair.

At this point, I'd say that the McCain campaign's instincts about her
have been spot on. If they keep breaking the conventional wisdom the way
they are, they'll have a ten point lead in a couple of weeks.

If the American people are that stupid they deserve what happens to
them. Republicans are running against their own record,
pretending that for the last eight years they didn't run the whole show.
I watched in total disbelief as Romney, a Ivy League-educated
former governor of Massachusetts blasting East Coast elites stood up
there and went on about " Liberals in Washington"
How could anyone there with an IQ over 85 not detect the bullshit of
such statements?

Well, let me explain it.

The reason that Democrats are so excellent at pulling defeat from the
jaws of victory is that they continue to think that elections are about
policies and philosophies rather than perception of reality. The GOP get
this, and the Dems keep falling into the trap. Look at your own post --
it's seething with resentment because you can't believe this is
happening (again)! When Obama tossed out that line months ago about the
relative (un)importance about the flag lapel pin and covering his heart
during the anthem, and his supporters said "good points all", the GOP
said "We're halfway home. The Dems nominated a guy who doesn't
understand where most of the votes come from."

Now, watch the debates for the next version of this. The GOP doesn't
have to "win" a debate (at least as judged by a professional debate
coach) and they know it. What they need to do is come across as "more
adult" than their opponent, because people will vote for somebody who
"looks like" the president, not who has the best ideas or the best
policies. Is that not obvious from the past? Mondale went on and on and
on in erudite fashion about his economic philosophies, plans, and
policies, and Reagan completely rebutted him (in the minds of the
voters) with "there you go, again." End of debate.

Further, more and more voters now are of the generation where they've
heard since high school that there's a huge national debt that "they"
will have to pay. Well, half the voters are now "they." They may be
interested in new programs, but they are VERY interested in how they'll
be paid for. The old liberal "this needs to be done, don't worry about
the cost" position doesn't sell, and not even to some LIBERALS anymore.
I've talked to more than a couple Obamaroids who have said, "well, we
really NEED health care, but if we borrow money for it, we're not
helping solve the larger problem", because they know that just
re-routing borrowed money from Iraq to health care ignores the fiduciary
responsibility of the United States of America.

Bush has been irresponsible on the economy. The Dems COULD have had the
high road on fiscal responsibility, but they marginalized the fiscally
responsible wing of the party (the DLC) very early in the cycle, while
they were begging for support from the KosKidlets and the MoveOns. In
doing that, they left themselves wide open as being the old version "tax
and spend" Democrats.

It doesn't matter how much money you pour into education == 80% of the
votes cast will be cast by down to earth people concerned with bread and
butter issues. Those issues are "do I have a job, am I making enough
money, how high are my taxes, and is the country safe." Simple. The Dems
love when the economy is bad because of the first two, but the lance
themselves in the foot each time because their fixes always include the
wrong answer to #3, and come across as clueless on #4. The GOP just sits
back, reminds the people how the markets work (addresses #1 and #2),
suggests that #1 and #2 will improve if there's less government rather
than more, implies that they will shrink government so they can lower
#3, and then shoves #4 up the Democrats ass.

Simple. And it will always work, unless the brand is tarnished by
corruption, fiscal incompetence, or if the Dems have an unusually
charismatic personality running.

And, it appears this cycle may very well show that they can figure out
how to lose EVEN IF all three of the above are in play. Amazing.

I'm well aware of all you've said, my statement asks the question "How
could anyone there with an IQ over 85 not detect the bullshit
of such statements", not how does it happen. Even "Joe Six Pack" should
be able to determine by now after eight years of republican
mismanagement that the republican platform is all smoke and mirrors. The
USA must be the only country in the world willing to elect
people based on who they would like to invite to their BBQ rather than
their intelligence.
