Comix, you're missing the point:
"One of the most dangerous weapons in the world today is the price of
oil. We ship nearly $700 million a day to unstable or hostile nations
for their oil. It pays for terrorist bombs going off from Baghdad to
Beirut. It funds petro-diplomacy in Caracas and radical madrasas from
Karachi to Khartoum. It takes leverage away from America and shifts it
to dictators."
Who said this? Bush?
No, on the contrary, Bush is the person playing oil drilling tricks on
America. New drilling off the coast of Florida or in ANWR won't bring
additional oil to market for years. His call for offshore drilling is
just a cheap election year stunt, while he ignores the tough choices.

If Bush wasn't in thrall to Cheney's closed-door Energy Task Force,
maybe he'd listen to the advice of these elder statesmen:
Energy tsunami coming, ex-policymakers warn

WASHINGTON (AP) =97 A bipartisan group of 27 elder statesmen is sending
an open letter to both presidential candidates and every member of
Congress saying the country faces "a long-term energy crisis" that
threatens the security and prosperity of future generations if swift
action isn't taken.
<snip>
"We demand more energy and complain about high prices, but we restrict
energy exploration and production. We embrace the promise of energy
efficiency, but we are slow to make adjustments in our energy-
intensive lifestyles," the letter says.
The open letter was the idea of the Institute for 21st Century Energy,
a group affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, which has
embraced largely Republican, pro-business approaches to dealing with
energy problems. The Chamber, for example, has called for expanding
domestic energy development, including opening offshore areas long off
limits, and criticized new taxes on oil companies.
But retired Marine General James Jones, the institutes's president,
said the call to action reflects broad, bipartisan views and doesn't
lean on one party or the other.
"There's an energy tsunami coming, and when you see it coming you
better get on top of the wave, or you're going to get crushed by it,"
he said in an interview.
Jones, the 40-year military veteran who has had discussions about
energy with both Obama and McCain, said he hoped the letter's sense of
urgency will influence both campaigns. "Both candidates are still
embryonic in their thinking about this," he said.

Just like Bush, McCain doesn't get it. Energy is a matter of national
security.
Meanwhile, Obama has announced his plan for total energy independence,
as a matter of national security.
"I=92ll invest $150 billion over the next ten years to put America on
the path to true energy security."
In =93A new strategy for a new world=94: Obama lays out his foreign
policy, and it makes a lot more sense than anything Bush or McCain
have ever proposed:

I challenge you to take 36 minutes and actually listen to his speech.
Rather than listen to partisan hacks talk trash ABOUT Obama, you owe
it to yourself to listen TO Obama (and McCain, too!)

Bush was the one in 2001 pushing for off shore oil drilling and other
thing and if we did what he wanted we may have had a lot more oil
today. He didn't get a lot of things right, but that one he did.

Whatever reserves lie there, it'll never be enough.
We need Obama's 'Manghattan Project' for energy independence.

In 2001 the GOP controlled all three branches of government. And that continued
for six years.
I thnk Bush was a lot more interested in handing over producing Iraqi oil wells
to those oil creeps that financed his elections. After all, didn't the defacto
president, Cheney, tell us that the war was to be financed with stolen oil?

How does that change the fact that Bush called for more drilling and
other things in 2001?
If the GOP controlled the courts for 6 years why didn't they overturn
abortion? Why have they ruled against Bush? You know that Nixon picked
the Chief Judge of the Supmere Court, that same Judge ruled against
Nixon in the tape case.
Now this as crazy as blaming the Democrats for the great increase in
gas prices. From 2001 to 2006 gas prices when go 30%. Since the
Democrats took power in congress gas prices have doubled in less then
2 years.
The truth is China and India are demanding more and more oil, that's
what is driving up the price, in fact we are using less. Untill people
really understand the problem and stop spreading myths this will never
be corrected.
Hillary took special interest money, so what is your point? Pardons
was sold to drug dealers and others for money to the DNC, yeah that's
a lot better I guess.
The only one that hasn't, as far as I can see is Obama.
But I do agree, Cheney is in charge.
