For the cost of a 30-second commercial spot during EM:HE, ABC could pay off
that mortgage.

They (ok, the show, not the network) already did pay off the mortgage once.
Why should people be handed the equivalent of a lottery win a second time?

Ratings?

I'm not saying it would get the ratings. I'm saying the 'lottery win' they
received was not bestowed out of the goodness of EM's heart. It was just
business.

And if people watched enough to make the first makeover economic, maybe a
sequel would be viable. EM buys them their very own tricked-out sole
proprietor small business.

I've never watched EM. But I have watched 'Pimp My Ride' a few times. What
struck me about that show was that those people didn't take care of their
vehicles before PMR came along to a disgusting degree. Now they are given a
tricked out show car with 5 million little doo-dads and gizmos that are sure
to be easily broken.

I'd like to see what those cars look like in 6 months.
