Hi, I've got $5,000.00 in an IRA account that I'd like to invest in a
moderatel to higher than moderate risk mutal fund
but in this market I don't know what to invest in. Any suggestion?
Commodities, railroads, europacific yesterday's news?

What is your time horizon? How long can you afford to tie up the money
in the stock market?

don't commit to any sector, but let fundxfunds.com rotate sectors in
one of their funds

Or else buy new etf LSC which does long/short commodities. Because
it's so new or something, the first (and maybe only) trade of the day
seems to come in about 8% low, and it needs another trader to settle
it down:

Do you have other investments so this is just "play money" for
diversification? Or are you just starting out looking for something
to be the core of your retirement portfolio?
If the former, we'd get a better idea of what would complement your
existing holdings if you told us what they are.
If the latter, you're better off sticking with a diversified "core"
fund, instead of haring off after specialized sector funds. A broad
market index fund or a low-cost, shareholder-friendly actively managed
fund like DODGX, LLPFX, SLASX, etc would make a good core holding.
Likewise an appropriate target-date retirement fund.
