Clipper Fund drop Ed Wicks 04-18-2008

I just got my first-quarter report from Clipper Fund and see that it is
down about 15% for the quarter. I can't find any info online to explain
such a drop and will appreciate any info/insights. Thanks.

just flip thru the yahoo screens on it, such as "holdings" which shows
it was half full of disasterous financial stocks. And some other
defensive stuff like health which didn't work for reasons that puzzles
everyone.

Did you actually look for info? Did you go to their website? Did yoou try
yahoo? Did you look at historic prices?
I think not. Can't anyone do anything for themselves anymore?

Yes. Hence my comment "I can't find any info online to explain such a
drop..."

> Did you go to their website?

Yes. The fact that the fund has 32% in "diversified financials" seemed
to be a likely answer to my question, but I thought I would ask this
group anyway. Maybe something else was going on of which I was
unaware, such as the management changes of previous periods. I also
called the 800 number and spoke to a Clipper person whose most recent
explanatory information was from 2007.

No.
I was not familiar with the "yahoo screens" to which Steven L. refers.
I am buy-and-hold and do not follow the markets closely. It apparently
takes a 15% drop in a quarter to get my attention. This may be an
expensive way to go through life, but it is my way.

And why/how would historic prices explain the 2008 price drop? Never
mind.

Thanks to dumbstruck and Steven L. for helpful responses.

Ed, though I did some searching, I will grant you that I might have
exercised more due diligence.

I'm not surprised. Look at the stocks it holds: Several banks.
You know the banking sector has been reeling from the credit crunch.
