If you only use text groups it is hard the beat the Astraweb block account -
only $10 for 25 GB with no time limit and free header download.

You actually *pay* for a news reader? I'm disappointed in this AT&T thing
because, of course, it was included with my monthly fee.

I've used two

or

The 1st has been rock solid for years and absolutely free, except for a
few months last year when it was DOWN for ???.

The 2nd has a $3.95 one time signup fee and tends to be a little
undependable.

I read both easily and efficiently on Thunderbird.

To have the proper terminology: Astraweb is a Usenet news service provider,
Outlook Express is a Usenet news reader, GrabIt is a Usenet binary
downloader.

Verizon is my ISP and they now only provide the Big 8 hierarchies and no
binaries. So for alt.* groups and binaries I have to pay or use unreliable
free servers.

The Astraweb block account is a great deal for text only users. Even if you
read many groups and download 1 GB a year of text the $10 gets you 25 years
of service.
