Can I in every year:

01/01-XX

Convert $100,000 from IRA to ROTH IRA

12-31-XX

recharacterize $95,000 from ROTH IRA to IRA

What you suggest is consistent with the convoluted strategy I read about
some time ago. Had to do with multiple account creation and the
recharacterization of all but the best performing account. e.g. in a mix
of 20 end products, one is bound to have performed very well, maybe even
doubling, you leave that one, and recharacterize the rest.

Legal? Sure. Is it worth all that time and paperwork? Ida know.
